Tennessee Republican State Executive Committee
Resolution
Whereas, the Tennessee Republican State Executive Committee, hereinafter known as the SEC, seeks to foster loyalty to the Republican Party and to promote Republican principles, and
Whereas, Republican Party philosophy maintains that individual rights, liberties and properties are continually eroded when citizens are oppressed by excessive taxation, inflation, government waste and over-regulation, and
Whereas Republican Party philosophy includes, at every level, a vision of less government and low taxes, and
Whereas, the Tennessee Republican Party has been steadfast in its opposition to a State income tax,
Therefore, be it resolved that the SEC encourages the Governor and the Legislature not to enact a State income tax,
Further, the SEC encourages the Governor and the Legislature to make cuts in proposed budgetary spending increases and non-essential capital development.
Further, the SEC believes a State Income Tax to be unconstitutional.
Further, the SEC believes new taxes on Tennessee citizens should not be enacted without permanently repealing other existing taxes rather than merely rolling back the rates of such taxes.
Therefore, the Governor and the Legislature must act responsibly to review and revise the current proposed budget rather than seek new taxes as the solution to managing Tennessees fiscal affairs.
